According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), insect repellents with DEET are the most effective in preventing insect bites. Different products contain varying amounts of DEET, so parents must be careful to read all labels and apply them according to product directions. The AAP recommends that products for children contain no more than 30 percent DEET to keep your child safe.
