Pain During Ovulation

Pain During Ovulation

About 1 in 5 women experience mid-cycle pain, also known as "Mittelschmerz". That’s German for “middle pain”, so-called because it occurs during the release of the egg from your ovary, or mid-way through your cycle.

The symptoms of "Mittelschmerz" include spotting, pain in one side of your back, and nausea. This pain can sometimes be one sided which could indicate which ovary is ovulating.

To alleviate back pain, try lying on the sofa when you get home from work or school and apply a hot water bottle to your lower back for 15 minutes.
