Insulin resistance plays a significant role in PCOS and one way to modify your insulin resistance is to modify your diet. A study found that following the DASH – Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension can also help to manage PCOS symptoms. The DASH diet consists of getting half your calories from carbohydrates like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, while avoiding saturated fats, refined carbohydrates, and sweets. The protein intake would primarily be from fish and poultry. This diet was designed in a manner to keep the sodium content less than 2.4g a day. When overweight or obese women followed this diet, it was shown to improve their insulin resistance as well as reduce their belly fat.
