Breast Cancer Detection in Pregnant Women
By Nabta Team
Of all the cancer diagnoses in pregnant women, breast cancer is the most common one. A lump in breast is the most common presentation of breast cancer in pregnant women as well – and 80% of these lumps are self-reported. Evaluating a mass in the breast for pregnant women is the same as in non-pregnant women. Excision or biopsy may be performed, as can an ultrasound which is preferred in younger women. A mammography may be performed if it is thought to help and you may think that there is risk of exposing the baby to radiation with mammography, but with radiation shields available the risk of exposure is minimal.
