Right Breastfeeding Position for Babies With a Cleft Lip
By Nabta Team
Usually when a baby is feeding, its lips on the outside and the soft palate of the mouth on the inside form a tight lock which enables the baby to create suction for breastfeeding. Babies born with a cleft lip, palate, both lack the anatomy required to create this suction. Until they get surgery to correct the cleft, breastfeeding can be a struggle. This can be eased by breastfeeding in an upright position to give the baby more support to be able to be able to breastfeed for a longer period.
