Even if you are very careful as a mother, it may not be possible to prevent your baby from getting a diaper rash. They can be caused by leaving a wet or soiled diaper on the baby for too long, for example while the baby is sleeping through the night in a soiled diaper. Diaper rash can also be caused by a bacterial or yeast infection. If yeast is the cause of the diaper rash it can be recognized by the presence of white scales on top of a red rash as well as redness along the baby’s folds. If you notice these signs, call your pediatrician immediately to figure out whether you need to take to baby for a consultation.
