A baby’s chronological age is how many months have passed since he or she was born. It is the goal of all doctors, nurses, and healthcare providers to have as many babies as possible born at or very close to their due date.

Adjusted age is important when measuring the growth and development of a premature baby. For example, a 4-month-old baby who was born 10 weeks before his due date cannot be expected to measure up to a 4-month-old baby who was born on or near his due date.
