Do Boys Really Talk Later Than Girls?
Usually, girls say their first words and begin putting words together earlier than boys. But if you’re a parent of a boy, don’t worry! This in no way means that just because your child is a boy he will have delayed language skills.
Boys are often just slightly behind, only by a few months. Children with typically developing language skills will hit language milestones within certain age ranges. Boys are often on the later side of the norm, while girls are often on the earlier side. Both boys and girls should be meeting language milestones on time, so if yours is not, some extra help from a speech-language pathologist might be needed.
