What is the new aAP Early Literacy Toolkit?
Part of this initiative includes an updated early literacy toolkit called “Books Build Connections,” which focuses on “the importance of talking, reading out loud, and singing to children every day beginning in infancy.” Research has shown that these three things are critical in building early language skills. However, in the United States fewer than 50 percent of children younger than five years of age are read to daily.
The new AAP toolkit includes a wealth of valuable information for all families with young children, including tips for choosing and reading books with children at various developmental stages and parental advice on promoting children’s brain development.
