What is One Thing That Will Make my Children Safer in the Car?

One of the most common mistakes is not securing the child into the seat tightly enough. During winter, the culprit is often winter coats! Be aware that your child’s jacket should be removed before you buckle him or her into the seat. This is true from infancy all the way through their use of a five-point harness.

The coat, which is often filled with the material to keep the child warm, is easily compressible in a crash. As a result, the child can slide up and out of the harness if it isn’t tight enough. Take the coat off, buckle them in, then cover them with the coat to stay warm. Make sure the chest clip is placed over the sternum and that only two fingers can fit easily between the clip and the chest.
