What Should I do if I had Complications in my Previous Pregnancy?

If your last pregnancy had some complications (such as delivering prematurely, developing severe preeclampsia, or delivering a baby who was abnormally small), it is important to get extra care during this pregnancy.

The best first step is to have a preconception visit so the details of your last pregnancy can be reviewed. It is possible that your doctor or midwife may even have you see a high-risk OB/GYN before getting pregnant if the issues are concerning enough. If not, it may just mean that you’ll need more frequent visits during this pregnancy. You may need additional testing, medications, or surveillance, so be sure to let your providers know about your history so they can help you best.
