Nabta Takes to the Stage at Women In Tech Forum 2020

Nabta Health was invited to attend the Women in Tech Forum hosted by Sharjah Research, Technology, and Innovation Park (SRTIP) on 18th February. The Forum was the first of its kind in the UAE and the Middle East region.

The event featured keynote speakers and five main panels featuring 25 women leading the technology sector in the region. Nabta’s co-founder & CEO, Sophie Smith, featured on the first panel entitled Gender Equality: Empowering Women in the Regional Tech Workforce. The panel was moderated by Anna Al Qasimi-Roberts, while Sophie’s fellow panelists included: H.E. Sheikha Lubna AlQasimi – First Female Minister in the UAE, H.E. Ms. Najla AlMidfa – CEO, Sheraa, and Ms. Mariam Bin Al Shaikh – Sharjah Business Women Council Membership Manager. 

Nabta’s chairman, Fattin Nimeh, moderated the second panel – Women-Led Technologies Initiative in the Middle East. The panelists included: H.E. Dr. Mariam Matar – Founder & Chairperson UAEGDA, Dr. Hoda Alkhzaimi – President at Emirates Digital Association for Women, Dr. Fatima Taher-Chair, IEEE UAE & Associate Prof. at Zayed University, and Ms. Heather Henyon-Founding General Partner at Mindshift Capital. 

The other panels discussed Women In Innovation: Industry Perspectives in the UAE & MENA Region, Be Bold: Inspiring Women Entrepreneurs to Innovate & Invest In Cutting Edge Start-Ups, and Lifelong Support & Education for Female Innovators.

Umnia Jamal Akram, Marketing Manager of SRTI Park told Sharjah24 “The forum is a unique opportunity to strengthen the personal and professional development of women and inspire technological innovations that develop and empower our region. We will be focusing on digitalization, IoT, artificial intelligence and the new digital economy and exploring the opportunities and challenges the industry faces in ensuring female inclusion. Our goal is to engage with women in the technology field and provide them with an opportunity to collaborate, mentor and seek input from diverse leaders in the technology sector.”

It was a brilliant event bringing together inspiring women from the UAE and we were honored to attend.
