How Soon Can I Exercise After a C-section?

A C-section is major abdominal surgery, and as such, your doctor or midwife will want to limit some of your activities for about 6 weeks while you heal. In general, most women are ready to start exercising by 6 weeks postpartum. Your 6-week postpartum check-up is the perfect time for your obstetric provider to make sure you are ready for exercise and to give you some tips for starting back up. You shouldn’t be bedridden until this time, though! Activities like walking and getting out with your baby are certainly fine before then and are a good way to promote healing without going overboard.
