Should I Allow my Child to Serve his own Food at Mealtime?

Researchers have found that children who are allowed to serve themselves can more easily recognize when they are hungry and when they have eaten enough. If children can gain these skills as young children, they will hopefully decrease their chances of obesity later in life.

So before you scoop a large helping of mac and cheese on your little one’s plate, get his input into how much he wants. By offering a variety of healthy foods and letting your child decide how much he wants to eat, you will possibly be saving him from a lifetime of weight struggles.
