Do Specialized Formulas Help Treat or Prevent Eczema?

Approximately 37 percent of children with moderate to severe eczema have food allergies. The most common food allergies include milk, eggs, peanut, wheat, and soy. In infants who consume mostly formula or breast milk, dairy is often a culprit. Many pediatricians will recommend a trial of hypoallergenic formula to see if this improves the eczema symptoms. While this is not a cure, it may decrease the severity of the flare-ups. Talk to your child’s pediatrician if you think your baby may benefit from this change.
