What Color Should my Baby’s Poop Be?
After your baby is born, it is normal for the stool to be brownish-black over the first few days. This thick, tar-like material is called meconium and will quickly pass as your baby’s appetite picks up, and he or she eliminates it from his or her system. After that, there is a wide range of colors that are normal, ranging from yellow to green to brown. The color depends on whether your baby is breastfed, formula-fed, or if he or she has graduated to solid foods. Let your doctor know right away if you notice that the stool is pale grey or white, red, or black because these colors may indicate a problem.
