Does Marijuana Work for Morning Sickness?
With recreational marijuana being legalized in more and more states, we are starting to see more pregnant women using the drug during pregnancy. A recent survey showed that approximately 4 percent of pregnant women used marijuana in 2014, compared with only 2.4 percent in 2002. Many pregnant women cite morning sickness and terrible nausea as the reason they use the drug. However, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends against this treatment. This is because while some newer studies have shown no increase in certain pregnancy complications in moms who use marijuana, we still don’t know about the long-term effects on things like babies’ intelligence, attention, and other neurodevelopment outcomes. Because of this, talk with your doctor or midwife about more well-known ways to manage morning sickness.
