Does Your Infant Sleep in a Safe Environment?
Research has shown that nearly one half of all infants in America sleep in an environment that is not considered safe. A recent study published in Pediatrics investigated infant bedding use over the course of 7 years and found that many infants are still being put to bed with loose blankets, quilts, pillows, stuffed animals, and other potentially hazardous items. These items can obstruct an infant’s airway, leading to suffocation. In fact, unsafe sleep environments are a known risk factor for sudden infant death syndrome, or SIDS. So be sure to keep your baby on a flat sleep surface free from loose bedding and soft objects to keep them safe.
