What do I do About my Picky Eater?

It’s your job to put healthy food choices in front of your children. It’s their job to decide how much they are going to eat at any time. Try to avoid being a “short order cook” and playing the “just one more bite” game. Parents always lose that one!

When you make a meal, try to make sure there is at least one item on the table your child will eat, and then cook as you would for the entire family. If your child decides to try something new, offer praise. If they stick to their one true favorite, that’s OK too. Your doctor will be able to tell during visits if your child is gaining the appropriate amount of weight, so as long as he or she is, keep offering healthy options and gently encouraging him or her to branch out and try new things.
